A friend quotes some details about Donovan Leitch's making of 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' and this triggered some memories, so I replied to her with the following: Remember how old I am? Alas, this reminds me. Old enough that I remember hearing this on AM radio back in Caracas, trying to record it to an open reel tape recorder ... with a microphone to the radio speaker (this couldn't work well and didn't). I loved that song. It was 1968 and I was discovering bits of the worldd around me that I thought I related to more than my immediate surroundings in West Caracas, attending a secondary school that I hated (many years later, already living in England, I learnt that it had burnt down during a student riot and confrontation with the police and that brought a guilty feeling of elation, or remote revenge of sorts across the years..
